Peter Toomey

Strategic Regulatory Initiatives
Peter Toomey serves as senior vice president of strategic regulatory initiatives for Duke Energy. He is responsible for developing and implementing enterprisewide regulatory initiatives to assist with the execution of the company’s strategy.
Previously, Toomey served as Duke Energy’s senior vice president of corporate and regulatory strategy. In this role, he led the company’s strategy development and strategic analysis efforts.
Toomey’s career with Duke Energy and its predecessor companies spans 35 years. He joined Florida Progress Corporation in 1984 and held numerous leadership positions in the treasury and strategic planning departments prior to the company’s acquisition by Carolina Power & Light in 2000, which formed Progress Energy. Before the Duke Energy/Progress Energy merger in July 2012, he served as vice president of finance for Progress Energy Florida. From 2003 to 2007, Toomey worked for Allegheny Energy in a variety of positions including finance, rates, energy procurement and call center operations. In 2007, he returned to Progress Energy Florida in a finance role supporting the Florida utility operations.
Toomey earned a Bachelor of Science degree in economics from Florida State University and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of South Florida. He also completed the Advanced Management Program at the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.
A native of the Washington, D.C., area, Toomey was born in 1957. He and his wife, Debbie, have two children.
